Two companies in Summit County — Surgere Inc. and Glassdoor, both in Green — are among 13 projects statewide that were awarded job-creation tax credits from the Ohio Tax Credit Authority (TCA) on Monday, Dec. 9.

The TCA approved an eight-year, 1.698% job-creation tax credit for Surgere, which develops software for supply-chain management, according to a news release from the governor’s office. The company said it expects to create 93 full-time positions, generating $7.6 million in new annual payroll and retaining $4.7 million in existing payroll as a result of its project in Green.

In September, Crain’s reported that Surgere planned to relocate its headquarters from North Canton to a Massillon Road building in Green. The company at the time said it planned to invest $10 million.

A company spokeswoman said the new headquarters, which is being constructed from an existing building, initially will be 20,000 square feet and eventually expand to 40,0000 square feet. The company expects the site to open at the end of April and house 80 people. The spokeswoman said it was yet to be determined how many jobs the company would add after that.

In September, Surgere president and CEO William Wappler said he anticipated the company’s overall employment numbers would balloon to three times the size of its then staff of about 150 people. While the company also runs a subsidiary in Mexico, most of the hires would be based at the new headquarters, he said at the time. He attributed the company’s growth to its AutoSphere product, which digitally links automotive original equipment manufacturers with their suppliers to streamline how they track reusable packaging and associated parts.
