Supply Chaney on Tour!

Day 2️⃣ Highlights from SAPICS in Cape Town, South Africa 🇿🇦

By the completion of the 2nd day (or 3rd if you count the day of workshops on Sunday), I've been able to highlight 3 key takeaways about the event:

1) Relevance: Transnet SOC Ltd, Transnet Port Terminals and Transnet Freight Rail as well as the #AfricaContinentalFreeTradeAgreement are 2 of the biggest conversations being had in supply chain in South Africa and beyond, and representatives of both gave keynote updates right away on day 1.

2) Venue Matters: Having been to 100+ industry events big and small over the few years, the venue an event is held in makes a real impact. Shows that take 10+ minutes of fast walking to get to your next session or meeting, are outdated, or not in clean and safe area, leave attendees complaining about the space rather than raving about the experience. Driving attendee traffic to expo booths is also an important element. SAPICS aced all of these areas. The venue layout felt like a big fun house that 600 people live in comfortably and enjoy each other's company.

3) Ecosystem: There were shippers, educators, students, policymakers, attendees from numerous countries (US, UAE, Netherlands, Kenya, Mauritius, to name a few), leaders of other other partner organizations (like Smart Procurement and Bee Skilled) and everyone seems united in driving supply chain innovation and efficiencies in South Africa and beyond.

Voices on today's reel include:

➖ Jamé Bell - CEVA Logistics
➖ Solomon Ruggu - HEINEKEN Beverages
➖ Herman Venter - DHL Express
➖ Corrie Janse Van Rensburg - KNAPP
➖ Debbie Tagg - Smart Procurement
➖ Ofentse Konaite - Transnet SOC Ltd
➖ Ruvahn Govender - Slimstock
➖ Monir Walters - Eazi Access
➖ Clare Fincham - SAPICS

How about that beautiful #TableMountain featured in the opening and closing drone shots? 🌄 😍

Day 2 of 2026 SAPICS Cape Town South Africa

Supply Chaney 07/22/26

Highlights from Day 1️⃣ at SAPICS in Cape Town, South Africa 🇿🇦

A conversation at a happy hour event in October last year with Azukaego Chukwuelue led me to this moment now, attending the preeminent supply chain conference of South Africa (and possibly the whole of Africa) as part of my campaign to explore and share about the supply chain ecosystem in Africa. While we may take supply chain industry conferences and expos for granted in the US, it is not at all common here, so this 48th annual convening of the supply chain industry of Africa is quite special and I'm honored to be able to participate. You'll recognize some names and logos in today's reel, and you'll also see many new ones, many that only exist in South Africa. I can't squeeze the full conversation with every interviewee here, but I'll be releasing them and adding them to a YouTube playlist soon. Thanks to the SAPICS team Clare Fincham, Mbongeni Michael Ndlovu, and others for inviting and hosting me!

Voices on today's reel:
➖ Thato Moloi (MBA) - SAPICS President
➖ Regina Naicker (FCILT) - SAPICS Board Member
➖ Demitta Gyang - #AfCFTA Secretariat
➖ Jonathan Mphake - SAPICS Board member
➖ Esranel Becker - Kardex- 1st AutoStore™ in SA
➖ Benjamin Burger - TFS (Takealot Fulfilment Solutions)
^ Basically Amazon / Amazon SC Solutions of Africa
➖ Botho Kgathi - Conversations in Supply Chain Podcast
^ Joining her on stage tomorrow for a fireside chat
➖ Laurent Vigouroux - b2wise
➖ Lizelle Bekker - Elevated (Pty) Ltd
➖ Sanjay Saha - Bee Skilled

Where's Nathan... And Why Is Surgere Tracking Him?!

Surgere has worked with content creators for years, and when Nathan came to us with this idea, we loved it. Think about it… what is Surgere known for? Tracking assets and what companies care about in real-time so they can make better decisions and run frictionless supply chains.

At shows and events, Nathan brings valuable insights to his audience and show attendees. The combination was an ah-ha moment.

So while you meet with, follow along, and watch Nathan’s activity, know that Surgere tracks your company’s assets in exactly the same way. Know what is happening when you want to, and learn about your supply chain activity in real-time.
